A Mutare Magistrate sentenced Pelagia Zindiye to ten years' imprisonment after convicting her of human trafficking charges. The 30-year-old Buhera woman deceived a 14-year-old girl by claiming they would travel to Mutare to retrieve personal belongings. The minor secretly departed her residence on June 30 and accompanied Zindiye to the destination. Upon arrival, Zindiye introduced the child to truck driver Steward Gororo, who remains at large. The defendant abandoned the victim with Gororo after receiving 40 dollars as compensation for planned sexual exploitation.
Gororo transported the minor to a dining establishment where he secured a private room and committed rape. The victim reported the assault to Zindiye, who instructed her to maintain silence about the incident. Authorities received an anonymous report that prompted an investigation. Police subsequently apprehended Zindiye following their inquiry into the trafficking operation.
