Zoomlion Deal Dumped in Massive Governance Win

Bright Simons from IMANI Africa praised the government for ending a waste contract with Zoomlion Ghana Limited. The policy expert said journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni fought hard to change the unfair system. Officials agreed to use competitive bidding for future cleaning deals after years of complaints.

Simons posted on social media that activists could achieve real changes under the new leadership. He called the decision a major shift from past government behavior when officials ignored similar demands. The contract gave Zoomlion 850 cedis monthly for each worker but only paid sweepers 258 cedis directly.

The company kept 592 cedis from each worker payment for administrative costs. Manasseh argued this arrangement cheated the actual street cleaners who did the physical work. He also claimed Zoomlion reported false worker numbers to receive extra money from the Youth Employment Agency.
