Zimbabwe Republic Police reported a fatal collision at Hunyani Bridge that killed seventeen people on July 22, 2025. A haulage truck lost control while traveling toward Harare and crossed into opposing lanes along Seke Road in Chitungwiza. The runaway vehicle struck two pedestrians walking on the median strip before colliding with an oncoming Nissan Caravan kombi. Both pedestrians died immediately from the impact. The kombi carried seventeen passengers bound for Chitungwiza when the crash occurred.
The collision caused the truck to drag the smaller vehicle off the roadway before overturning and crushing it completely. Fifteen kombi occupants perished at the scene while four people survived with serious injuries. Emergency responders transported the wounded survivors to Chitungwiza Hospital for medical treatment. The accident claimed ten female victims and seven male victims according to police records. Medical examiners will conduct post-mortem examinations on all deceased victims at the hospital mortuary.
