ZRP Issues Warning About 31 March Movement Protests

The Zimbabwe police banned weapons in downtown Harare ahead of planned protests. Police Chief M. Masvivi signed a new rule stopping people from carrying dangerous items through central city areas. The ban covers many neighborhoods, including Mbare, Braeside, and areas near Sally Mugabe Hospital. This rule blocks anyone from bringing weapons into public spaces from March 27 through May 31 of 2025.

The police specifically mentioned several items they consider dangerous. These include catapults, machetes, axes, knobkerries, swords, knives, and daggers. They also banned any traditional weapons that might start public fights or disturb peace. Anyone caught breaking this rule faces serious trouble - either paying a big fine (level 5) or spending six months in jail. The courts might even decide to give both punishments together.

This police action directly targets the planned March 31 protests across Zimbabwe. The timing makes it clear that authorities expect trouble during these demonstrations. The document shows official government concern about possible violence during upcoming protests. By limiting weapons two months beyond the protest date, police aim to keep control throughout spring.

The prohibition comes from Section 13 of Zimbabwe's Maintenance of Peace and Order Act. Chief Superintendent Masvivi was signed as the commanding officer for the Harare Central District. His official stamp, dated March 26, appears on the document. The police headquarters shared this notice widely to warn everyone about the consequences of carrying weapons during the protest period.
