Zvishavane Chiefs Raking In Pay From Cell

Three jailed town leaders still earn money from the Zvishavane Council after two years behind bars. These directors have been facing prison time since October 2023, but have never officially lost their jobs. The council must pay them about $108,000 when they leave jail because they remain employed. Only one real director runs the money office, while others sit locked up.

Town boss Takarangana Keta claims these criminals are on forced leave with no pay. But job experts laugh at this idea because those rules work differently in their case. Each director makes between $1000 and $1250 monthly, which adds up fast over three years. The council plans job hearings next week after waiting for court appeals to finish.

Law experts say criminal cases need separate work punishments through proper steps. The three broke the rules by giving the same building contract twice to one company without proper votes. They first hired JM Construction for $2.7 million worth of work that never finished on time. Instead of new worker searches, they secretly picked the same company again without following rules. This forced Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption officers to arrest them.
