If you are interested in making your own drum samples then you should know that there are four basic ways to go around this and the list is as follows:
- Use a synthesizer to make your drum samples.
- Sample a drum sound from a pre-recorded track.
- Record an Acoustic drum-kit or any other percussive sound of your choice.
- Record a hardware or software drum machine.
Word of advice : Be very careful with sampling copyrighted material. This might lead to intellectual property disputes. You are better of making your own sounds than having to clear samples if the copyright holder files a lawsuit against you.
So just because you can get away sampling a Kick drum from a song that doesn’t give you the right to use it. However some music producer do this because it’s extremely difficult to prove that a Kick drum was sampled from a particular song.
