E minor scale: natural, harmonic and melodic

There are three types of E minor scales:
  • Natural E minor
  • Harmonic E minor
  • Melodic E minor

Natural E minor​

The Natural E minor scale is the most basic form. It has seven notes. Here are the notes in the Natural E minor scale:
  • E
  • F♯ (F sharp)
  • G
  • A
  • B
  • C
  • D

E harmonic minor scale​

The E harmonic minor scale is similar to the natural minor scale but with one small change. A half step raises the seventh note in the scale. Here are the notes in the E harmonic minor scale:
  • E
  • F♯
  • G
  • A
  • B
  • C
  • D♯

E melodic minor scale​

The E melodic minor scale has two forms: ascending and descending.
  • Ascending: You raise the sixth and seventh notes when you go up.
    • E, F♯, G, A, B, C♯, D♯, E
  • Descending: When you go down, it is the same as the natural minor scale.
    • E, D, C, B, A, G, F♯, E
