“FEFE” certification drops, Nicki left off new plaque

In a rare move, the RIAA just quietly downgraded the certification for the 2018 track FEFE by 6ix9ine featuring Nicki Minaj. Its official sales tally was revised down to five million units, stripping its previous eight-times-platinum status. Industry sources call this kind of correction basically unheard of in recent decades.

The song was a massive hit, peaking high on the Billboard chart and racking up over a billion video views. The reason for the certification slash is unclear, with no comment yet from the recording association, fueling fan theories about possibly inflated streaming numbers. Notably, Minaj's name is absent from the updated award, meaning she would not get credit if it ever hits diamond status, despite her feature and writing role.

The revision does not erase the song's cultural impact at the time, but it does raise eyebrows about how its initial numbers were certified. The track remains a defining, if now controversial, hit from that year.
