20ft Septic Tank Horror as Body Found in Machakos

Machakos police started looking into how a young man died after his body came out of a septic tank Thursday morning. Officers cannot explain why the man, about 20 years old, entered the tank before he died. The recovery happened at Kathemboni village near Machakos Township.

Police worked with locals, Kenya Red Cross workers, county rescue teams, and government officials to pull the body from the 20-foot tank. They took the remains to Machakos Level 5 Hospital mortuary as crowds watched the rescue effort. A Red Cross worker said the county needs better rescue gear for such cases.

Deaths in manholes and septic tanks keep rising across Machakos County. A three-year-old boy drowned in February when he fell into a manhole at a building site in Athi River. His mother, Janet Nyaboke, learned about her only child's death through a phone call during her workday. Area residents report many dangerous open pits throughout their neighborhood.
