230 former Boko Haram fighters head home to Borno

Borno State welcomed home 230 former Boko Haram fighters who finished their government rehabilitation program in Gombe State. These ex-insurgents completed the Deradicalisation, Rehabilitation and Reintegration program at Malam Sidi camp. They make up part of the 390 people who gave themselves up to Nigerian soldiers. This happens as Governor Babagana Zulum recently shared worries about losing ground against terrorism in the region.

Operation Safe Corridor leader Brigadier-General Yusuf Ali praised the teamwork between different agencies that made the program work. He asked local communities to help these former fighters rejoin society. The ex-insurgents spent six months learning new job skills, receiving mental health support, and studying civic values. Camp Commandant Colonel Johnson said the program changed participants' thinking and behavior.

Borno's Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo, spoke for Governor Zulum at the graduation event. She promised the state would help these people rebuild their lives with respect. Representatives from many Nigerian states attended the ceremony. Military officials, police, intelligence agencies, and development groups also joined the event to show their support for peace efforts in the region.
