Zimbabwe wants to hire 8000 teachers next term after the Treasury approves. The jobs will focus mainly on early childhood classes at primary schools and science subjects at high schools. Education Minister Torerai Moyo shared these plans yesterday at a teacher conference in Bulawayo. He said Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube promised they would receive permission soon to fill these positions.
The ministry has also started creating a Teaching Profession Council to improve education standards across the country. The Attorney General finished drafting the bill, which goes to Parliament next week. Officials hope to pass this law before year-end. ZIMTA leader Dr. Sifiso Ndlovu believes the council will help identify top teachers and remove unqualified people from classrooms. Teachers must register with this new group and follow its rules once established.
