AfWASA Congress Highlights Urgent Water and Sanitation Goals

The 2025 African Water and Sanitation Congress and Exhibition just ended in Kampala, Uganda. It lasted for five days and brought together over 2,500 people from Africa and other parts of the world. They came to share ideas about how to give everyone on the continent clean water and better toilets by the year 2030. This is an important goal called Sustainable Development Goal 6, or SDG 6 for short.

Right now, many people in Africa don't have clean water to drink or proper toilets to use. In fact, 440 million people, or about 30% of everyone living in Africa, can't get clean water. Even more people, about 779 million, or 52%, don't have good toilets. This is a big problem that needs to be fixed.

At the end of the meeting, the attendees made promises to work together to achieve SDG 6. They want to share new ideas, training programs, and ways to solve problems. They also want African governments to get help from businesses to pay for better water and toilets for everyone.

The people at the meeting discussed many important things. They said we need to consider climate change when we build new water systems and toilets. We also need to take good care of the environment and the places where our water comes from.

They want to ensure that everyone, no matter where they live, has clean water and good toilets. They also want to find new ways to pay for these things and use technology to improve their performance.

The attendees at the meeting said that we need to teach more people how to maintain water systems and toilets. They also want to work together to make this happen.

They talked about how important it is for governments to do a good job and for water companies to work well. They said we need to find ways to pay for everything without relying on help from other countries.

They also said that we need to do more research and use new technologies to improve things. They want people to learn how to solve problems independently.

All of these promises are important, but they will only work if everyone does their part. African countries will meet again next year to see how well they are doing. The big question is: will the leaders keep their promises and make life better for everyone, or will they just talk about it and not do anything?
