Ahmedabad Plane Crash Body Count Soars To 270

Doctors found 270 bodies at the plane crash site in Ahmedabad after Thursday's disaster. The London-bound flight crashed into a residential area seconds after takeoff. All passengers and crew died except one 40-year-old British man who survived. The aircraft hit a building used as doctors' housing at BJ Medical College. Officials continue matching DNA samples to identify victims.

India's accident investigators lead the crash inquiry with help from US and UK teams. Workers found the black box on Friday which will help determine what caused the disaster. The Boeing 787 lost altitude less than 60 seconds after leaving the airport. Flight tracking data shows the 11-year-old aircraft had made 25 trips between Ahmedabad and London recently. Aviation officials ordered extra safety checks on Air India's Boeing fleet as a safety measure.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi walked around the crash site for 20 minutes on Friday. He visited the hospital to meet injured people and the sole survivor. The entire nation prays for their recovery according to Modi's statement. Air India's CEO also toured the crash site and called it deeply moving. Memorial vigils took place across India and the UK to honor the dead.
