Airtel Uganda expands 4G network in Kalangala Islands

Airtel Uganda activated two additional 4G towers on Bugala Island within the Kalangala district, extending mobile coverage to eight previously underserved villages as part of a broader rollout of 180 sites nationwide. Deputy Resident District Commissioner Henry Ssebunya acknowledged the infrastructure investment during the commissioning ceremony, noting that connectivity problems had hindered local commerce and communication efforts.

Business territory manager Musa Gava confirmed the installations represent the operator's tenth site in Kalangala, bringing enhanced voice and data services to communities that previously experienced unreliable network performance. The expansion builds on existing 4G infrastructure covering Bukasa, Bubeke, Kitobo and portions of Bugala Island.

Airtel Uganda maintains 17.9 million subscribers across its network, with 7.5 million users accessing data services. Company representatives indicated the improvements would facilitate economic development through better access to financial platforms, healthcare resources and educational content for island residents.
