MTN Uganda expands women’s entrepreneurship program

MTN Uganda activated the second stage of its Advancing Women Entrepreneurs initiative at a ceremony in Gulu, where the telecommunications firm also opened its largest Northern Uganda facility. The program targets female business owners through training modules, subsidized financing, and procurement access within MTN supply networks.

Since its inception, 118 women-led operations have joined the scheme, collectively obtaining contracts worth approximately 18 billion Ugandan shillings from MTN and securing 1.6 billion shillings in reduced-rate credit through DFCU Bank partnerships. Participants received instruction covering procurement procedures, technical capabilities, financial administration, and environmental compliance standards.

The expansion leverages partnerships with DFCU Bank, ATC, and The Innovation Village to distribute economic opportunities beyond central regions. MTN positions the venture as infrastructure for sustainable enterprise development rather than philanthropy, emphasizing measurable contributions to employment generation and regional digital participation.
