Ali Riaz blasts poll denial in Dhaka Gulshan, calls democracy an illusion

Dr Ali Riaz addressed participants during a roundtable discussion held in Gulshan regarding democratic progress. The National Consensus Commission Vice-President declared that Bangladesh conducted three legitimate electoral processes, yet the losing candidates refused to acknowledge the results. Democratic transformation failed because the nation established no supporting institutions for this purpose. Elections alone cannot achieve the necessary changes despite their importance for progress. The country requires additional mechanisms beyond voting to establish a true democracy.

Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder from Citizens for Good Governance emphasized the existing unity while criticizing political parties for lacking commitment to implementation. Educational professionals should focus on their academic responsibilities rather than political involvement. Dr Tasnim Zara from the National Citizen Party stated that political organizations inadequately address public expectations and aspirations. Ganosamhati Andolon Chief Coordinator Zonayed Saki demanded that legal requirements be established to reduce inter-party suspicion regarding the execution of reform. Political groups prioritize personal objectives while citizens seek nationwide agreement on fundamental issues.
