Anambra doctors call off strike as Soludo bows to COOUTH pay demands in Awka

Resident doctors at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital ended their seven-day work stoppage on Saturday. Dr Joy Okwumuo and Dr Chukwubuike Ifekudu announced the decision through an official statement. Medical staff returned to their positions at 8 a.m. after government officials met their requests. The strike began on Thursday when physicians demanded improved workplace conditions. Governor Chukwuma Soludo approved salary increases and various medical allowances.

The administration agreed to release Medical Residency Training Fund payments by September's conclusion. Physicians will receive enhanced Consolidated Medical Salary Scale rates and specialist compensation packages. House officers gained rural assignment opportunities and additional benefits through the agreement. Previous hazard pay debts will be settled under the new arrangement.

Hospital administrators pledged cooperation with management teams to execute approved changes. The medical group emphasized the need for recruitment of residents and junior staff members. Leaders requested department accreditation for Family Medicine, Radiology, and Anaesthesiology programs. The association expressed appreciation to state officials and medical organizations for their assistance.
