Angata Barrikoi Killings Cops Under Fire

The public prosecutor asked police chief Douglas Kanja to hurry up with the murder case facts. Five people died during fights with officers at a land dispute on Monday. Five police officers were hit with arrows during the conflict. Residents tried to stop land officials from marking property lines in the Kilgoris area. Prosecutor Renson Ingonga wants all case information within seven days.

The violence started when people claiming to be rightful landowners blocked roads. They stopped government workers from doing land surveys. The situation turned deadly fast. Health center official Joel Langat said four bodies arrived dead at his facility. One more person died while doctors tried to save them.

Angry residents damaged a government car during the trouble. Police Chief Kanja promised justice at a community meeting Tuesday. He said any officer who broke rules would face punishment, no matter their rank. Kanja immediately transferred the local detective chief and moved all special police units from the area. Both police internal affairs officials started separate investigations into what happened.
