Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim traveled to Qatar this evening for Monday's Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit. His aircraft left RMAF Subang Air Base at 7 pm following an invitation from Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. The summit addresses recent Israeli military actions against the Gulf nation. Deputy Minister Zulkifli Hasan and Foreign Ministry officials accompanied the Prime Minister on his journey. Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan will meet the delegation upon arrival in Doha.
Malaysia plans to condemn Israeli violations of international law during the extraordinary gathering. Leaders from Organisation of Islamic Cooperation member states will discuss Gaza developments and Palestinian rights. The summit follows a September 9 Israeli airstrike in Doha's Leqtaifiya district that killed six people. Fifteen fighter jets conducted the operation targeting Hamas political figures during the ceasefire negotiations. Qatar lost a security officer while Hamas leadership survived the attack.
