Anwar sets Sabah 40 percent talks for Monday

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that federal and state officials will commence technical discussions regarding Sabah's 40 percent revenue entitlement claim under the Malaysia Agreement 1963. Treasury secretary-general Johan Mahmood Merican will meet with Sabah state secretary Safar Untong in Kota Kinabalu to address outstanding fiscal matters following multiple Cabinet deliberations.

Speaking at a youth event in Penampang, Anwar clarified that Putrajaya never challenged Sabah's revenue entitlement itself but appealed only portions of a court judgment suggesting constitutional violations by previous governments. The prime minister rejected claims by certain legal observers that federal authorities contested the state's fundamental right to the revenue share.

Anwar urged political actors to avoid distorting facts during the campaign season and emphasized his administration's commitment to resolving longstanding grievances through proper channels. He stressed that correcting technical aspects of judicial reasoning should not detract from recognizing Sabah's legitimate fiscal claims while preserving respect for former national leaders.
