At State House, Ruto and Uhuru signal easing of tensions

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta visited State House during the EAC-SADC joint summit, addressing the Democratic Republic of Congo peace efforts. President Ruto guided Kenyatta through the renovated government complex after official diplomatic sessions concluded. The leaders walked together across modernized grounds, examining architectural improvements and fresh landscaping projects. Kenyatta observed the newly constructed State Pavilion, which serves as Ruto's temporary office during the main building restoration work. Their friendly interaction demonstrated potential reconciliation between the two politicians whose relationship deteriorated before the 2022 elections.

The State House renovation project began in December 2023, with completion scheduled for this year. Chinese contractors replaced the century-old structure's traditional red roof design with contemporary flat-roof architecture. Herbert Baker originally designed the building in 1907 as Government House. Budget allocations increased from 195 million to 795 million shillings during the 2024-25 financial year. Workers demolished the previous wooden pavilion and installed grey cabro stones throughout the front courtyard area.
