Atomic Heart dev spills beans on trippy multiplayer world CUBE

Mundfish reveals details about The CUBE, a new multiplayer game set in the Atomic Heart universe. The studio surprised fans when it announced both Atomic Heart 2 and this online spin-off featuring MMORPG elements. More than 10 million people played the original Atomic Heart game. Studio founder Robert Bagratuni shared information about the project during a recent interview. The company has doubled its team size to handle multiple games at once.

Bagratuni created The CUBE concept during a phone call when he started sketching grids on paper. He wondered what would happen if cube tiles could rotate and shift surfaces. The idea sparked a two-hour creative session that led to the full game concept. The story takes place after the first Atomic Heart game events. Players will explore a world that changes and moves around them.

Mundfish developed new split-rendering technology to make The CUBE work properly. This system lets thousands of objects move and rotate at the same time across large multiplayer areas. The technology affects how players move through the world and how physics work inside the game. Unreal Engine 5 powers the game with custom modifications to support these features. The company has filed for a patent on this technology.

The CUBE combines shooting action with traditional MMORPG features like character growth and gear upgrades. Players will complete cooperative missions and explore dangerous areas for valuable rewards. The game currently undergoes internal testing before public beta trials begin. Mundfish plans to add new content and features after the official launch. The company has not announced pricing details for the final release.
