UNESCO bigwig Sue Vize visited Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md Mahfuj Alam at his government office. The pair talked about major changes coming to Bangladesh media during their meeting. Alam told Vize that his government has already started several projects to fix how news works in the country. Officials plan to create a special team that will reform how newspapers count their sales numbers. The adviser also revealed that new rules protecting journalists are being written up right away.
Alam promised the new law will come out very soon. He believes other media reforms can happen within the next few months. The government official claimed that newspapers and TV stations face zero pressure from politicians these days. Media companies can report whatever news they want without anyone telling them what to do. Journalists enjoy complete freedom when they write their stories and broadcast their programs.
