Bangladesh meltdown, Pallekele, Mehidy Miraz wails over 99-run defeat

Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz faced the music after his team crashed to a 99-run loss against Sri Lanka. The defeat sealed a 2-1 series loss at Pallekele on Tuesday. Miraz pointed fingers at weak partnerships and momentum that slipped away from his squad. He praised the pitch quality but admitted his bowlers failed to pressure the opposition batters. Kusal Mendis hammered 124 runs to push Sri Lanka to 285 for 7 wickets.

The chase went sideways for Bangladesh despite Towhid Hridoy managing 51 runs. Miraz refused to blame Hridoy for the team collapse. He explained that constant wicket losses made it tough for any batter to play aggressive cricket. Regular dismissals killed any chance of building a solid foundation. The captain stood behind his teammate's slower approach during the difficult situation.

Miraz took responsibility for his dismissal when he tried to speed up the scoring rate. He attempted a risky shot that backfired and put extra pressure on his teammates. The captain believed the shot would have sailed for six runs if executed properly. His partnership with Hridoy had started to swing momentum back toward Bangladesh. The dismissal came at the worst possible moment for the visiting team.

Sri Lanka built a massive 124-run partnership between Mendis and Charith Asalanka after losing three early wickets. This partnership became the game-changing factor that separated the two teams. Bangladesh batters managed only thirties and forties throughout their innings. Miraz stressed that middle-order partnerships decide ODI matches. His team struggled to build substantial stands when it mattered most.

Bangladesh got bowled out before completing 50 overs in all three matches of the series. Miraz called this pattern a serious concern for the team moving forward. He placed extra responsibility on middle-order batters to improve their application. The captain wants his players to take fewer risks and play smarter cricket. Miraz promised the team would learn from these mistakes and work on their weaknesses.
