Bangladesh Remittances Exceed $30 Billion for First Time After 26.5% Rise

Workers living abroad sent a record amount of money back to Bangladesh this year. The South Asian nation received more than $30 billion from its citizens working overseas. Bangladesh Bank reported the final total reached $30.04 billion on June 28. Officials celebrated this achievement as the country's best performance ever. The milestone came just before the fiscal year ended on June 30.

The new record represents a huge jump from the previous year's numbers. Remittance flows increased by 26.5 percent compared to the same period last year. The previous best year was 2020-21 when Bangladesh collected $24.78 billion from overseas workers. This year's total broke that earlier record by more than $5 billion. Bank officials tracked the steady growth throughout the fiscal year.

Government officials credit last August's political changes for the dramatic improvement. The shift helped calm economic uncertainty and rebuilt trust among Bangladeshi workers abroad. Expatriates felt more confident sending money home through official channels after the government transition. The political stability encouraged more people to use banks rather than informal money transfer systems. Economic confidence returned as the new leadership addressed previous concerns about corruption and mismanagement.

The remittance surge also helped strengthen Bangladesh's foreign currency reserves. Officials said the steady money flow from workers overseas supported the country's economic recovery. The central bank reported improved financial stability as dollars continued flowing into the banking system. This success story demonstrates how political stability can boost economic performance. Bangladesh now looks forward to maintaining this positive trend through the coming fiscal year.
