Bangladeshi ranger Zohra Mila joins IVLP in Washington, DC

Bangladeshi conservation officer Zohra Mila departed for Washington DC on Saturday to participate in America's International Visitor Leadership Programme. The Forest Department biodiversity specialist will spend three weeks attending workshops, meeting public officials, and visiting multiple states. The US State Department covers all program costs while Mila engages in high-level discussions and field research activities. She expressed appreciation to the American Embassy and her department for selecting her as their representative. Mila believes this experience will enhance her future conservation efforts.

The zoology graduate from Jahangirnagar University has traveled to Switzerland, Australia, Malaysia, and India for wildlife programs. She previously worked with conservation organizations before joining the Forest Department. Mila chose fieldwork over urban opportunities, dedicating her career to studying animals in forests and mountainous regions. The IVLP began in 1940 as America's premier professional exchange initiative. US embassies select participants based on leadership potential rather than applications, with 250,000 people having participated.
