Bank Boss Declares War on Zimbabwe Informal Trade

Zimbabwe's money boss, Dr Mushayavanhu, wants to help small shop owners run their businesses better. He shared his ideas last Thursday about strengthening the country's money.

The government noticed that many small shops weren't paying taxes like big stores do. This made things difficult for bigger shops that followed all the rules. Minister Ncube made new rules to fix this problem.

Anyone selling goods must show papers that prove they bought them the right way. If they can't show these papers, people will think they brought the goods into Zimbabwe without permission.

Small shop owners need to start keeping their money in banks. They must also let people pay with both Zimbabwean and US dollars. If they don't follow these rules, they might have to pay US$9,000 every three months.

The good news is small shops won't pay extra money when people use bank cards for tiny purchases. If someone buys something that costs less than US$5, the shop won't pay any fees. Banks won't charge shops for any sales under US$100.

Small family shops can still do well next to big supermarkets. They often spend less money running their shops and know their customers very well. They can sell things people need every day.

These new rules will strengthen Zimbabwe's money. When everyone follows the same rules, all shops can work together to improve the country's business world.
