Batelco supercharges Bahrain’s backbone with Cisco AI upgrade

Bahrain's main telecom operator, Batelco, just inked a deal with Cisco to overhaul its core IP network infrastructure. The agreement was signed by Batelco's Chief Technology Officer, Rashid Mohammed, and Cisco's regional managing director, Zayan Sadek, at the Beyon Campus in Hamala. Company CEOs and other senior leaders from both sides were present for the announcement.

Cisco will supply advanced routing equipment alongside network automation and monitoring tools. The goal is to significantly boost performance and reliability for all of Batelco's mobile, home, and business customers across the kingdom. This modernized backbone is also meant to set the stage for AI-driven network management, aiming for smarter and more efficient operations.

Batelco's CTO called the partnership a major leap in their network evolution plan, stating it prepares them for future intelligent services and next-generation connectivity like 5G Advanced and eventual 6G readiness. The Cisco executive echoed that the tech will embed automation and intelligence into the network's core. This investment supports Bahrain's broader national targets for digital transformation and a more innovative economy.
