BNP's Salahuddin scoffs at PR polls' plot'

BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed dismissed calls for proportional representation on Tuesday while visiting party founder Ziaur Rahman's grave during the 46th founding anniversary. Ahmed said his party focuses on public relations and connecting with voters ahead of the February elections, rather than on systems that could destabilize governance. The senior politician accused unnamed groups of conspiring with foreign forces to disrupt the democratic transition as candidates campaign across Bangladesh.

Ahmed warned that citizens would reject any party attempting to obstruct the electoral process through confusion or interference. He claimed both domestic and international actors were working to undermine democracy, but expressed confidence that Bangladeshis remain united against such efforts. The statement came as political parties intensify outreach activities ahead of national polls scheduled for early next year.
