BNP's Salahuddin warns Yunus on February polls

BNP senior leader Salahuddin Ahmed granted Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus complete freedom to address constitutional reform challenges during Sunday meetings. Ahmed warned that missing the February election deadline could create national and regional security risks. The BNP Standing Committee member expressed willingness to support any implementable reform process chosen by the chief adviser. Ahmed suggested consulting the judiciary members if necessary for guidance on constitutional matters. He stated that most constitutional reform proposals lack legal feasibility under current circumstances.

Ahmed emphasized that reforms, justice proceedings, and elections should remain separate processes. He noted that BNP members suffered severely under the previous Awami League governance through disappearances and killings. The leader emphasized that election scheduling cannot depend on the completion of reform or the outcome of justice. Ahmed cautioned that election delays might benefit fascist elements and attract unwanted regional power intervention. He reaffirmed BNP's commitment to the February elections without additional conditions attached to the timeline.
