Bobi Wine honors Obote in campaign stop

Opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi visited the grave of former President Apollo Milton Obote in northern Uganda on Friday while campaigning for the 2026 presidential election. Kyagulanyi, who leads the National Unity Platform, stopped at the home of Jimmy Akena, Obote's son and president of the Uganda People's Congress, before placing a flag at the burial site in Akokoro.

Obote served as Uganda's first prime minister after independence and later became president, only to be removed from office twice. The first overthrow occurred in 1971 under Idi Amin, and the second occurred between 1980 and 1986, when President Yoweri Museveni took power.

Kyagulanyi told supporters in Apac District to vote against Museveni and protect their ballots. He said the visit represented brotherhood and respect for Uganda's political past as he seeks to defeat Museveni in his second attempt at the presidency.
