Bodyguard Mutwe Hit With Six Robbery and Assault Counts

The Masaka court charged Bobi Wine's bodyguard, Eddie Mutwe, with six crimes on Monday. Security agents took him from Mukono on April 27 and kept him hidden until army leader Gen Muhoozi said Mutwe stayed in his basement. He arrived at court walking with pain, wearing dark clothes with pants rolled up, needing help from two people.

The judge read charges about robbery and beating people at a funeral last May in Lwengo district. Court officials held a private meeting with just Mutwe, his lawyer Magellan Kazibwe, and state lawyer Michael Wakosesa. Three other security team members have already faced similar charges since February at Masaka Prison.

The group hurt reporters and broke camera equipment at the burial event. They also took phones, stole money, and hurt three people badly with sharp weapons. More suspects remain free but will face charges later. The judge sent Mutwe to prison until May 25 for more investigation time. His lawyers want the court to let him see doctors before the trial starts.
