Boiling water scalds mom and baby in Erma Reka tanker blast

A mother and her one-year-old son suffered burns from boiling mineral water after a tanker hose ruptured in Erma Reka village earlier this week. The woman sustained first through third-degree burns as she walked near a spa hotel where a driver was filling tanks with 88-degree water. The stroller canopy shielded the infant from severe injury.

Zlatograd Mayor Miroslav Yanchev suspended mineral water extraction from the village well pending safety regulations. The thermal water originates 190 meters underground at temperatures between 88 and 90 degrees. Hotels had previously transported the water free of charge in tankers.

Police and the Labor Inspectorate opened investigations into the incident. The victim received treatment at Zlatograd Hospital before transfer to Pirogov Emergency Hospital in Sofia. She has since been discharged and advocated for formal regulations governing mineral water use.
