Budget Cut Blows Uganda Tourism as Funds Disappear

Uganda Makes Less Money for Holiday Places.

The people who run Uganda want to spend much less money on making their country nice for visitors next year. They plan to cut the money from 311 billion shillings to about 176 billion shillings. This means they will spend 135 billion shillings less than before.

Amos Wekesa takes people on fun trips around Uganda. He feels sad about this change. He says other countries like Tanzania spend lots of money to bring visitors to their places. He thinks Uganda needs to tell more people about its beautiful places, or nobody will come to visit.

The Uganda Tourism Board helps tell people around the world about Uganda's pretty places. Simplicious Gessa works there and worries they cannot do their job well without enough money. They only have 17 billion shillings, and just five billion of that goes toward telling people about Uganda.

Tom Butime helps run all the places tourists like to visit. He says Uganda needs better roads and electricity near these places. He wants visitors to have fun when they come to Uganda. He thinks spending less money makes it hard to improve things for visitors.

The people who run Uganda want their country to earn a lot of money from visitors by 2040. But many people think this cannot happen unless they spend more money to make Uganda nice for tourists. They want the leaders to change their minds and give more money to help bring visitors to Uganda.
