Bukit Aman traffic cop charged with murder over fatal Jalan Stephen Yong shooting

A traffic police officer entered a not guilty plea to murder charges during his High Court appearance. Genesis Nitchell David Reddy faces the death penalty under Section 302 of the Penal Code for allegedly killing Muhammad Zaki in April. The 30-year-old lance corporal could receive imprisonment between 30 and 40 years plus 12 cane strokes if convicted. Judicial Commissioner Datuk Faridz Gohim Abdullah scheduled the next hearing for August 22 and ordered detention at Puncak Borneo Prison. The National Legal Aid Foundation provides legal representation for the accused officer.

Muhammad Zaki died from a gunshot wound to his head while sitting inside a vehicle on Jalan Stephen Yong. Two friends reported the shooting to Batu Kawa police station at 5:30 AM on April 26. Officers arrested six suspects within hours of receiving the report and recovered a loaded pistol containing 10 rounds. Deputy public prosecutor Jean Siow Chung Hwei leads the prosecution team against the defendant.
