Bulawayo Arts Awards roar back in glitter and glory

The Bulawayo Arts Awards returned over the weekend after skipping a year. The event celebrated the city's cultural scene with a glitzy ceremony recognizing artistic achievements. Organizers used the break to secure resources and refine the awards, leading to a strong comeback. Fashion was a major component, with a dedicated team commenting on red carpet arrivals.

Hosts, including BKay and Zee Gumede, kept the program moving, while performances from winners like Noluntu J and Mr Bones energized the crowd. Several award categories were renamed to honor late legends like Pathisa Nyathi. Key winners included Black Diva for newcomer, Bhila in alternative music, and Mjoks as top radio DJ. The worldwide ambassador award was shared by Nitefreak and Everton Mlalazi, with a lifetime achievement prize going to Josh Nyapimbi.

The People's Choice Award and a new car went to DJ Mzoe. Zimpapers won for online media coverage. The evening also featured a guest appearance by South African musician Madamara and a cultural presentation by Chief Dakamela. The full list of winners spanned categories from dance and theatre to music and film, highlighting the breadth of the local arts community.
