Bulawayo Derby Takes Center Stage as PSL Hits Halfway Mark

The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League hits its halfway point today with teams having played 144 matches and scored 238 goals total. Week 16 saw 16 more goals added to the tally with TelOne's Washington Navaya becoming the first player to reach double figures this season. The league has produced plenty of action with six own goals, four hat-tricks, 12 braces, 17 penalties, 57 draws and 16 red cards recorded.

Sunday's main attraction will be the Bulawayo derby between Highlanders and Chicken Inn at Barbourfields Stadium. Both teams come into the match fresh from midweek victories that ended disappointing runs. Highlanders beat Manica Diamonds 1-0 away from home with a goal from Mafios Chihweta. Chicken Inn also won 1-0 at home against Ngezi Platinum Stars thanks to Mpumelelo Bhebhe's close-range strike.

Chicken Inn coach Joey Antipas believes the victory over Ngezi will boost his team's confidence heading into the derby clash. Highlanders coach Kelvin Kaindu confirmed his team picked up some injuries during their midweek match. He gave Chihweta light training and hopes both him and Reason Sibanda will be ready for selection against their city rivals. The stadium expects a packed crowd for this passionate local rivalry.
