Bulawayo's arts journalists shape the city's creative voice

Four journalists earned nominations in the Bulawayo Arts Awards category, recognizing exceptional cultural reporting across multiple media platforms. Zimpapers correspondents Langalakhe Mabhena, Mbulelo Mpofu and Mthabisi Tshuma compete alongside ZBC television producer Lisa Masuku-Kurira for the honor of celebrating storytellers who documented the city's creative landscape.

Mabhena focuses on heritage preservation and traditional performance while Tshuma champions rural talent from districts such as Gwanda and Nkayi. Defending winner Mpofu analyzes urban music trends and cross-border collaborations, having expanded into radio broadcasting. Masuku-Kurira becomes the first woman shortlisted after amplifying regional performers through television coverage since 2020, advocating for greater screen visibility for local creators in a medium that typically favors national programming.
