The Bulgarian Embassy in Tel Aviv requested consular access to a Bulgarian citizen detained by Israeli authorities after an operation against the flotilla Sumud. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the embassy maintains contact with Israeli officials and monitors the case while seeking guarantees the detainee's rights will be respected. Bulgaria tracked the Global flotilla Sumud from departure and notified Israeli authorities about the Bulgarian citizen aboard one vessel before the operation occurred. Israeli forces detained citizens from multiple countries and transported them gradually to the port of Ashdod, where local authorities offered medical care if needed. Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov said in Copenhagen that Bulgaria called on Israeli authorities to follow international law norms regarding the detained Bulgarian national.
