BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman voiced support for photographer and human rights advocate Shahidul Alam after Israeli forces intercepted a Gaza aid flotilla on Friday. Rahman stated on Saturday that Alam's participation represented a stand against oppression and injustice while carrying Bangladesh's flag. Israeli authorities detained approximately 450 passengers from 44 vessels, and Alam traveled aboard the final ship seized by the Israeli Navy.
Alam said on Friday that his vessel carried 96 passengers, mostly journalists and health workers, and aimed to challenge Israel's blockade of Gaza. Other ships in the flotilla transported food and medical supplies. The Israeli military confirmed it had stopped the last vessel after Alam's video message. The detainees consisted of activists, journalists, and lawmakers from multiple countries.
