Bumpy Bulawayo to Victoria Falls Road Gets Epic Fix

Crews begin detour construction for the massive Bulawayo-Victoria Falls highway repair project. Five Zimbabwean companies will tackle the 435-kilometer stretch over 10 months. Workers clear vegetation around Bernice Area, Cross Jotsholo and Insuza. Teams build temporary roads to prevent traffic jams during repairs. The highway carries tourists headed for Victoria Falls and freight trucks moving goods between nations.

This critical route links Zimbabwe with Zambia, Botswana and Namibia daily. Drivers face dangerous potholes and narrow lanes that cause delays. Eroded shoulders create safety hazards for thousands of travelers. Provincial Affairs Minister Richard Moyo praised President Mnangagwa for funding the upgrade. The deteriorating pavement has frustrated motorists and business owners for years.

The rehabilitation falls under the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme that repaired 50,000 kilometers since 2021. Government purchased new tractors and road equipment for future maintenance needs. Zimbabwe aims to reach upper-middle-income status through infrastructure improvements. Local companies handle the entire project without international financing. Better roads will boost trade and reduce travel time for visitors heading to Africa's premier waterfall destination.
