Calvary win Big League title and make top flight debut

Calvary Football Club won the 2024/25 FUFA Big League championship after beating Paidha Black Angels 1-0 on Saturday. The match took place at Midigo Primary School playground during a heated West Nile derby. Steven Oriokot scored the winning goal during the 79th minute of play. The victory sent fans across Yumbe and West Nile into wild celebrations. Officials gave Calvary the league trophy on Sunday, June 22.

The Yumbe team finished the season with 52 points at the top of the 15-team table. They beat second-place Gaddafi and Buhimba United Saints by two points. This marks the first time Calvary will play top-flight football after years of trying. The club showed great consistency and fought hard during pressure moments throughout the season. They needed to win their final game to secure the championship and delivered when it mattered most.

Three teams earned promotion to the Uganda Premier League next season. Gaddafi claimed second place with 50 points after crushing Kataka 3-0. Buhimba United Saints grabbed the third promotion spot despite drawing against Kiyinda Boys. Blacks Power missed out on promotion by just one point after beating Busoga United 2-0. Four teams face relegation to regional leagues after poor campaigns.
