Charges Filed Against 30 People, Including Police, in Abu Sayed Killing Case

Court investigators completed their examination of Abu Sayed's death during last summer's student protests. The International Crimes Tribunal agency submitted findings that name 30 suspects. Police officers appear among those facing accusations. Prosecutor Mizanul Islam announced the development to reporters. Officials plan to present formal charges at the second tribunal court next Sunday.

Abu Sayed attended Begum Rokeya University when he died on July 16, 2024. The student became a victim during widespread demonstrations that swept across Bangladesh. Court officials spent one month gathering evidence after receiving permission on June 15. Four suspects faced arrest and questioning during the investigation period. Former police officers and university staff members provided testimony to investigators.

Prosecution lawyers described how campus violence preceded the fatal shooting. University proctor Shariful Islam and student league members attacked protesters before the killing occurred. Two police officers fired shots at close range that ended Abu Sayed's life. The victim's relatives filed their complaint on January 13 against 25 individuals. Court proceedings will advance when prosecutors submit their complete case documents.
