Chelsea Gamble on Pedro for Club World Cup Quarterfinal

Chelsea grabbed Joao Pedro from Brighton for a massive 60 million pounds deal. The Brazilian striker signed an eight-year contract and flew straight from his home country to America. Pedro completed his medical checks and can face Palmeiras during Saturday's Club World Cup quarter-final match. The 23-year-old forward becomes available immediately for the Philadelphia showdown. Chelsea supporters will see their new signing make his debut against the Brazilian side.

Pedro netted 30 goals across 70 appearances for Brighton after his 2023 move from Watford. Brighton originally paid just under 30 million pounds for the former Fluminense academy player. The seasoned striker brings serious firepower to Chelsea's attacking lineup. Pedro expressed his excitement about joining such a historic club with brilliant players. He emphasized that Chelsea players must always focus on winning matches.

Chelsea also secured Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund for 55 million pounds. The English winger cannot participate during the Club World Cup because he already appeared for Dortmund. Liam Delap, Mamadou Sarr and Dario Essugo joined Chelsea before the tournament started. All three players received proper registration for the group stage matches. Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler praised the transfer as beneficial for everyone involved and highlighted Pedro's Champions League opportunities.
