Chimombe Mpofu Fraud Charges Dropped Out of Nowhere

The government withdrew fraud charges against businessmen Moses Mpofu and Mike Chimombe. Courts accused the men of stealing a streetlights contract from Harare City Council. The case ended right before their trial started. Both men spent 11 months locked up waiting for court dates. Judges had refused to let them leave jail earlier.

The streetlights case finished but other problems remain for both men. Chimombe still faces charges over a goat supply deal worth 87 million dollars. Police say his company took government money but never delivered most of the goats. Mpofu also has goat charges against him. He faces another case about a fake energy project in Mbare worth over 400,000 dollars.

Neither man can leave prison because of the remaining cases. Anti-corruption officials promise to keep investigating both businessmen. The goat trial moves slowly through the courts. Prosecutors might file new charges if they find more evidence. Legal battles continue for both men despite the streetlights case ending.
