Chinese national loses land grab to Zimbabwe war vets

War veterans in Harare prevented a Chinese national from seizing their land after a surveyor general confirmed the properties were separate. The former liberation fighters from Takunda Freedom Fighters Housing Cooperative Society hold residential plots on 113 hectares in the Stoneridge area that the government allocated in 2006. Xinfeng Li claimed ownership of 20 hectares within the veterans' territory, but a September survey revealed he referenced incorrect land parcels.

The Harare High Court dismissed the case on Sept. 16 after the surveyor general's office confirmed the properties were distinct based on title deed numbers, measurements, and diagram references. Li admitted the veterans did not occupy his land after reviewing documentation. The war veterans received their allocation in 2017 for member resettlement before the ownership dispute began.
