Chiwenga tipped as Mnangagwa rival in ZANU-PF power struggle

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has drawn praise from some political observers, who view him as the only leader capable of steering Zimbabwe out of what they call the damaging leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his associates. Social media commentary, such as a post from user Lynne Stactia, has described Chiwenga as a figure who could restore stability and guide the nation toward democracy, contrasting him with President Mnangagwa’s tenure.

Stactia said she never supported Mnangagwa’s leadership and expressed hope that Chiwenga would lead a transitional administration for the country’s benefit, emphasizing his perceived lack of selfishness and greed. Another user, Democrat-X-Street, said Chiwenga appeared to be the better option between the two, but also cautioned that leaders’ true intentions are often revealed only after they come to power.

These comments follow reports of internal ZANU PF tensions, with President Mnangagwa seeking to consolidate his authority as Chiwenga’s supporters push for a change in party leadership.
