Christmas Eve robbers get 5 years for $8K Gletwin heist

Two home invaders got locked up for a Christmas Eve robbery. Harare magistrate Artwell Sanyatwe sentenced Moffat Nyateka and Fact Kunzekutema to effective prison time after they admitted to armed robbery in Gletwin. The men, aged forty and twenty-two, used a knife and a screwdriver to break into a house, tie up the victim, and steal property valued at eight thousand US dollars.

The court gave each man a seven-year sentence but suspended two years of that term for five years on condition of good behavior. An additional two months were suspended if they paid restitution, leaving a net custodial sentence. The magistrate called the crime serious and premeditated, noting the use of weapons to intimidate the homeowner made jail unavoidable for deterrence. The pair were arrested after hiring a vehicle to move the stolen goods and selling some items, claiming desperation motivated their actions.
