City Gasps as Udelnaya Metro Opens Early

St. Petersburg commuters can expect the Udelnaya metro station to reopen very soon. The station on the Moskovsko-Petrogradskaya line might welcome passengers back as early as April 24 or 25, according to the Telegram channel "Podzemnik." This comes ahead of previous schedules that had set the reopening for May 1 or sometime in early May. The station has been closed for repairs since last summer, with renovation work lasting about 11 months.

Workers completed several major upgrades during the closure period. They put in new lobby flooring throughout the station. The ventilation systems received a complete overhaul. All lighting fixtures were updated to modern standards. Crews replaced utility lines and installed new roofing materials. The escalators also underwent extensive repairs to ensure safe operation.

Photos showing the renovated station have started appearing online. Transport Committee Chairman Valentin Enokaev had previously announced the station would open sometime during the first half of May. The earlier February announcement had pointed to a May 1 reopening date. The change means residents will regain access to this important transit point sooner than expected. The reopening represents a significant improvement to the city's public transportation network.
