Civil Servants Starve as April Pay Hits Snag

Civil servants across four Malawi districts wait for their April pay. Teachers in Blantyre report financial hardships, as other district staff have already received their money. Many workers struggle to make ends meet without their expected income.

The Finance Ministry blames technical glitches at commercial banks for the problem. Officials say all April salaries were processed between April 24 and 30. The money reached the banking system but stalled during final disbursement. A team from the Accountant General and the Reserve Bank confirmed the fund's arrival.

Dr. Betchani Tchereni, Treasury Secretary, asked workers to remain patient. The government promises staff will receive their pay very soon. Affected districts include Blantyre, Dowa, Balaka, and Zomba.
